WATERLOO - Gladys Irene Homolar, 91, of Waterloo, formerly of Elberon and Vining, died Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at Allen Hospital, following an extended illness.

She was born Jan. 26, 1917, in Vining, daughter of John and Agnes Snider Duchacek. On June 29, 1935, she married Alvin Homolar at the justice of peace in Toledo. He died Jan. 3, 2002.

Mrs. Homolar received her education at Oneida No. 1 Country School near Elberon. She and her husband farmed near Vining and Elberon until 1947, when they moved to a farm near Eagle Center.

Survived by two sons, Don (Jo Ann) and Dwain (Peggy), both of Waterloo; a daughter, Darlene (Robert) Witry of LaPlace, La.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by two daughters, Donna and Dawn; and four brothers.

Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at Overton Funeral Home, Traer, with burial in National Cemetery, Vining. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

A memorial fund is being established.

In her free time, Gladys enjoyed embroidering, listening to polka music, cooking, baking and enjoyed watching game shows such as "The Price is Right," "Wheel of Fortune" and "Deal or No Deal." She also enjoyed following NASCAR racing and cheering on her favorite driver, Bobby Labonte.
