FLATER, BARRON, VANBUREN

Alfred Flater, 74, of 302 Fowler Street, died at Schoitz Memorial Hospital at 4 p. m. Monday. He entered the hospital Thursday and died of heart disease and complications.

He had been employed with the Rath Packing Co. here for the past 27 years, making his home with his stepmother, Mrs. Jennie Flater, 203 Fowler Street.

He was born October 18, 1877 at Tipton, Iowa, the son of Martin Van and Pauline Flater. He never married.

Surviving besides his step-mother are a half sister, Mrs. Guy F. Barron, 714 West First Street; two half brothers, Dr. Norman C. Flater, Floyd, Iowa, and Donald T. Flater, Detroit, Michigan, and several nieces and nephews.

The body is at O'Keere & Towne Funeral Home where arrangements are pending.

Researcher Chuck S. said he has his father, Martin VanBuren Flater from another source. The 1920 census for Poyner Township, Black Hawk, Iowa records Alfred's father as VanBuren. Other censuses record him as Martin V, or V. M. Flater.
