CEDAR FALLS -- James E. "Jim" Nichols, 68, of Springfield, Mo., formerly of Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, in Omaha, Neb.

He was born July 27, 1945, in Guttenberg, son of Opal and William Nichols. Jim graduated from Janesville High School, and attended body and fender school in Omaha. Jim served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. He was very active for 43 years in NA, opening many groups throughout the country. He actively promoted the production of The Basic Text of Narcotics Anonymous. He enjoyed riding and rebuilding motorcycles, camping, fishing and public speaking.

Jim is survived by his son, Ron (Melba) Nichols; his mother; one granddaughter, Ashley; seven sisters, Sandy (John) Brucher, Linda Stroud, Judy (Jerry) Buchan, Rita Negus, Ilene (Jim) Hitchcock, Denise (Joe) Carthey and Diane (Steve) Grapp. Jim had numerous nieces and nephews, along with his NA family.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, a brother-in-law and a niece.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Dec. 7, at 10:30 a.m. at Janesville United Methodist Church, 424 Sycamore, Janesville, Iowa. Visitation will be one hour before services.
