WATERLOO - Jean Elaine Bertheau, 81, of Ellenton, Fla., formerly of Waterloo, died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2007.

She was born Sept. 16, 1925, in Decorah, daughter of Emil and Alice Hallman Frederick. She married Edwin John Bertheau May 19, 1945, in Boston.

Mrs. Bertheau worked at Rath Packing, the Waterloo Post Office and retired from Job Service of Iowa.

Survived by: her husband; a son, Kenneth (Myrna) of Shell Rock; a daughter, Annette (David) Tolander of Waterloo; three granddaughters, Sarah (Ron) Lundy of Shell Rock, Stephanie Tolander of Milwaukee and Kristina Tolander of Chicago; and a great-grandson, Bryan Lundy of Shell Rock.

Preceded in death by her father, Emil Frederick; her mother, Alice Fairbanks; her stepfather, Elmer Fairbanks; two brothers, Carroll and Kenneth Frederick; a sister, Edith Simatovich; and a great-grandson, Sean Lundy.

Private family services will take place in Iowa at a later date. Her body was cremated.

Memorials may be directed to the family or to Tidewell Hospice, 4151 37th St. East, Palmetto, FL 34221.

She was a creative person and spent most of her free time creating cross-stitch replications of Thomas Kincade originals. She enjoyed crocheting and making gifts for her family. Jean was a devoted wife and mother. She will be missed.
