Thomas Joseph Friedl, 81, left this world for a new adventure on Nov. 8, 2012. He died of complications from his Parkinson’s disease.

Tom was born in Waterloo, where he grew up. He graduated from St. Ambrose University, Davenport. Tom worked as a creative director in advertising until he and his wife, Shirley, opened a photo art gallery, The Friedl Collection, in 1986. At this time, Tom was able to pursue his love of photography.

Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Shirley; daughters Susan, Louise and Lisa; sons Joe, Matt and Andy; stepsons, Kurt, Cobi and Tor; stepdaughter Maja; 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and siblings Monsignor Friedl, Mary, Sister Margaret, James and Rosemary.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Phillip and Rosemary; siblings Kate, Phil and Shirley; and stepchildren Karl John and Kari.

Funeral services will be held at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Galena on Nov. 17 at 11 a.m. Online condolences may be left for the family at millerfhed.com.
