EDAR FALLS -- Wendell George Welsh, 92, of Cedar Falls, died Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at Windsor Nursing and Rehab Center.

He was born Aug. 13, 1921, in Fairbank, son of Edward and Flossie West Welsh. He married Dorothy M. Miller on Aug. 14, 1943, in Oelwein; she died April 2, 1997.

Mr. Welsh served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 718th Railroad Battalion under the command of General George Patton, receiving four combat stars. He was a railroad engineer with the Illinois Central Railroad for 41 years, retiring in 1981.

Survived by a daughter, Cheriee (Dr. Steven) Tarr of Cedar Falls; and five grandchildren.

Preceded in death by two sons, Wayne and Patrick; a daughter, Renee Welsh; and three brothers, Kenneth, LaVerne and Ronald.

Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Richardson Funeral Home, Cedar Falls, and for an hour before services Wednesday at the church. Full military honors will be provided by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49 and the Iowa Army National Guard.

Memorials may be directed to the family to purchase trees for Lookout Park in Cedar Falls.
