WATERLOO - Joan Ann Cole. 76, of 1801 Mulberry St., died Sunday, June 18, 2006, at Allen Hospital of natural causes.

She was born Dec. 31, 1929, in Crofton, Neb., daughter of Leo and Theresa Filips Brummer. She married Weldon "Jim" Cole on Feb. 26, 1952, in Waukon. He died March 30, 1996.

Mrs. Cole was a sales clerk for many years at Black's Department Store until retirement. She volunteered many services for St. John's parish and also served lunches at the Salvation Army.

Survivors include a son, David (Patricia) of Waterloo; a daughter, Vicki Balvanz of Glendale, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Chelsea Cole, and Christopher, Angela and Bradley Balvanz; and two brothers, Floris (Betty) Brummer of Marion and Gary Brummer of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by a son, Ronald E., on July 16, 2005; and two sisters, Phyllis Opfer and Angela Brummer.

Services: 10 a.m. Thursday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, with a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation also for an hour before services Thursday at the church.
