WATERLOO -- Wayne E. Jacobs, 87, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013, at Covenant Medical Center of natural causes.

He was born Sept. 6, 1926, in Waterloo, the son of Everett and Aline Moritz Jacobs.

He married Florence M. Cox on Oct. 31, 1948, in Lancaster, Mo.

Mr. Jacobs graduated from Waterloo West High School, then served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, during World War II. He worked for his family’s Quality Dairy until taking it over. He and his wife owned Coast to Coast Hardware in Boone until moving back to Waterloo. He then worked for the city of Waterloo in the engineers office, retiring after 22 years of service.

Survived by his wife; two daughters, Susan Carpenter of Grand Prairie, Texas, and Kelly (Steve) Decker of Waterloo; three grandchildren, Jody (Doyle) Madsen of Denton, Texas, Steven (Jen) Decker II of Tampa and Michael Decker of Des Moines; and a sister, Millicent Horslund of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Scott.

Services: There will be no services. Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, is assisting the family.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Wayne was very athletic, he was in the Bowling Hall of Fame, enjoyed tennis, wrestling and Iowa Hawkeyes football. He loved golfing and trout fishing and later taking his grandkids. Wayne and Florence enjoyed vacationing in Florida. He led a full and busy life and he passed that quality on to his children. Wayne will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
