WATERLOO -- Gerald Norman "Jerry" Serum, 80, of Olathe, Kan., formerly of Waterloo, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, in Olathe.

He was born Dec. 14, 1932, in Mondovi, Wis., son of Melvin and Adelia Averbeck Serum. He married Rosemary McCann on Nov. 22, 1958, in Waterloo.

He graduated from Mondovi High School in June 1951. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1959 during the Korean War as a shop keeper, second class.

Survived by two daughters, Cindy Serum (partner Ruth Jennings) of Kansas City, Kan., and Debbie Kelly of Olathe; three sons, Mike (Laura) of Olathe, Jeffrey (Karen) of Kalona and Steven (Tina) of Austin, Texas; 12 grandchildren; and a brother, Harris of Mondovi.

Preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Gladys Serum.

Private services are being held today in Olathe.
