WATERLOO - Arlen Dale Johnson, 52, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, June 21, 2006, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home of complications from diabetes.

He was born Feb. 21, 1954, in Waterloo, son of Elvin C. and Sunny Joan Shadman Johnson. He married Vadine "Dee" Ernest, and they were later divorced.

He was raised in Waterloo, graduated from West High School and then attended the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls. He made Waterloo his home for his entire life. Mr. Johnson was a business owner and operated "Jungle Image" exotic pet store, and in his younger years he worked for the city of Waterloo.

Survived by his father, Elvin C. Johnson of Waterloo; a brother, Elvin "Al" Clarence (Kathie) Johnson of Waterloo; a sister, Mara (Scott) Dudley of Llano, Texas; and many nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and -nephews; and a close loving circle of friends.

Preceded in death by his mother; and his grandparents.

Celebration of life services: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at 139 E. Dunkerton Road, Waterloo. Private family inurnment will take place in the Garden of Memories Cemetery at a later date. Parrott and Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Association or Cedar Valley Hospice.
