Former Resident Dies at Cedar Falls

Mrs. C. M. Fobes, 63, a former Colfax resident died at the Sartori Hospital at Cedar Falls Thursday, following an illness of over two months of double pneumonia and influenza.

Mrs. Fobes as Margaret Stewart taught in the Colfax schools in 1896. Later she taught in California. She was a charter member of Chapter BA of the P.E.O Sisterhood.

The following account was given in a Cedar Falls Paper:
Margaret J. Stewart was born at Keota, Ia., on Oct. 26, 1873. She attended the public schools there, graduated from the Cumnock School of Elocution, Chicago, Ill., and attended Iowa State Teacher College. She taught school for many years. She was married to C. M. Fobes June 11, 1919 at Keota.

Mrs. Fobes was a member of the Methodist Church, the P.E.O and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Surviving are her husband, one stepdaughter, Mrs. Charles Barrett, Jesup, Ia., three Sisters and four brothers ….the remainder of the obituary is missing. ~ Newspaper unknown, possibly The Des Moines Register or The Newton (IA) Daily News. Thurs 18 Mar 1937.
