LA PORTE CITY - Betty Lorraine Jesse, 82, of rural La Porte City, died Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, at Sunrise Hill Care Center, Traer.

She was born Aug. 11, 1931, in Dysart, daughter of Elmer and Helen Mannel Riemer. She married Leland Jesse in La Porte City on March 2, 1957.

She graduated from La Porte City High School in 1949, and then attended State College of Iowa. Mrs. Jesse taught elementary school from 1951-1970 at Lansing, West Union, Hampton, Elk Run and La Porte City. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church – Jubilee.

Survived by her husband; three sons, Brad (Renee’), Brian (Chris) and Barry, all of La Porte City; a daughter, Traci (Felix) Stevens of Ashland, Va.; a sister, Donna Maas-Klug of Blairstown; six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her parents.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church – Jubilee, rural La Porte City, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at White Funeral Home, Jesup, and for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family to be divided between The Black Hawk County Alzheimer’s Association and The Jubilee Zion Lutheran Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund.

Since 1970, Betty devoted her life to her family. She loved gardening, baking, and attending athletic contests and other events in which her sons, daughter, and grandchildren participated. She always had a large garden.
