Funeral services are pending for Robert S. Strain, 77, 1009 Grant St., at the Kearns- Dykeman chapel. Mr. Strain died at 11:15 a. m. Monday at his home. Death was caused by carcinoma. He had been ill since the last of May.

Mr. Strain was born Aug. 4, 1881, in Lafayette, Ind,, the son of Andrew L, and Nancy J. Higgins Strain, He came to Iowa at an early age and lived in Dubuque and Manchester for many years before coming to Waterloo in 1924.

He worked as a carpenter worked on various construction projects in Waterloo and had worked for the Jens Oleson Construction Co. for the last seven years.

He married Carrie Bell Coonrod at Manchester, Oct. 17, 1910. He was raised a Methodist and was member of the Carpenter's Union and the Woodmen of the World.

He is survived by one son, Richard H. Strain, of Dubuque; one daughter, Mrs. Elles Harrison, of 5009 Grant Ave.; three brothers, J. P. Strain, Portland, Ore.; Howard Strain, Manchester, and Homer Strain, Pomona, Calif, Also surviving are four grand-children.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one daughter, three brothers ad one sister.
