Emma E. Porath, 84, of Waverly, formerly of Janesville, died Friday, June 10, 2005, after a lengthy hospital stay.

She was born Feb. 17, 1921, daughter of Edward Birt "Bert" and Ida May Hively Petet in Brewster, Neb. She married Raymond R. Porath July 24, 1940, in Kearney, Neb. He died Dec. 18, 1994.

Mrs. Porath and her husband farmed in Nebraska before moving to Iowa in 1941. They purchased their farm near Janesville soon after and farmed there until retirement.

Survived by two daughters, Loretta (Richard) Corwin of New Hartford and Ellen (Dennis) Hundley of Cedar Falls; three sons, Leo of Kansas City, Kan., Cleo (Mary) of Shell Rock and Greg (Jodi) of Janesville; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Martha Sickler of Lincoln, Neb., and Elva McCullough of Broken Bow, Neb.; and a brother, Ervin Petet of Nampa, Idaho.

Preceded in death by a grandson; five sisters; and four brothers.

Services: 1 p.m. Tuesday at Good Shepherd Chapel, Bartels Lutheran Home, Waverly, with burial in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, Cedar Falls. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, with the family present from 2 to 4 p.m. Visitation also from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present from 5 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home, and from 11:30 a.m. until services Tuesday at the chapel.

Memorials may be directed to either Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community or to Cedar Valley Hospice.
