[Waterloo Daily Courier, Thursday, December 26, 1907, Waterloo, Iowa]

Mrs. Jannette F. Goodrich

Gradually growing weaker from the infirmities of old ago aggravated by heart weakness, Mrs. Jannette. (Field) Goodrich passed to that bourne from which no traveler returns this morning at 10 o'clock. The members of her family had been gathered for several days awaiting the inevitable end. The deceased had been ill for the past three months, for the greater part of the time bedridden, and it was announced several days ago that the probability of her rallying at her advanced age was very slight. She was taken ill the latter part of last September, only a day or two after she had summoned her children and a number of friends to her home, 715 West Third Avenue, to celebrate her eighty-fifth birthday.

Mrs. Goodrich had been a resident of Waterloo for almost forty years and during that long period she had formed many close friendships, and those who mourn with the, children over this death are legion both in this city and where she was known in early childhood and at the beginning of her married life.

Her children and her friends speak of her as a home-body, although since her residence in Waterloo she had been an active member of the Congregational Church, and devoted a portion of her time to the practical needs and work of that organization. She also found time to engage in many charitable movements and until she became so feeble that active participation was impossible she took a keen and appreciative interest in all good works going forward around her. She was not less active than any of her companions in the early building up of the moral and spiritual welfare of the city.

Jannette Field was born at Dorset, Vt. on Sept. 19, 1822, and she was there married when about 20 years of age to James H. Goodrich and the young couple immediately established a home at Morris, N. Y., where they resided for a number of years before going to Lockport, N. Y., and still later to Boston, Mass. From Boston, Mass., they went to Dorset, Vt., again, remaining there a short time until they came to Waterloo in the year 1868. From that time this city was their residence until death summoned them. Mr. Goodrich died six years ago last June. When he first came to Waterloo he was bookkeeper for the Cyrus Farwell Bank and was later engaged in the insurance business.

The four children of this couple survive and are residents of this city. They are: Mrs. Cornelia Kirkpatrick, 1015 West Fifth Street; L. A. Goodrich, 926 West Sixth Street; Miss Lizzie Goodrich, who made her home with her mother, and J. H. Goodrich, 720 West Third Avenue. There are ten grandchildren. A sister, Miss Ellen Field, also survives and for several years had made her home with Mrs. Goodrich.

Funeral services for Mrs. Goodrich will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home, the Rev. W. H. Rollins in charge. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
