CEDAR FALLS - Roger William "Pa" Wahl, 97, of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013, at ManorCare Health Services, Waterloo.

He was born in Waterloo on May 15, 1916, son of William George and Margaret Flaherty Wahl. He married Margaret Schaefer on July 21, 1941; she died in 1984. He married Emma Sturtz on July 3, 1985.

Mr. Wahl graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1935 and Iowa State Teachers College in 1948 with bachelor degrees in chemistry and math, and with a teaching certificate. He farmed west of Cedar Falls, then near Lawler. He was a veteran of World War II and Korea and was a member of Kimball Avenue Methodist Church, Waterloo.

Survived by his wife; four sons, Tony (Karen), Bill (Vicki), Doug (Dan) and Scott Wahl; seven grandchildren, Matthew (Charlotte)Wahl, Cristine (Jason) Mehmen, James (Sheyann) Wahl, Stacey (Jerry) Hootman, Nanette (Scott) Ellsbury , Will (Holli Barnett) Wahl and Alexandra Wahl; and 12 great-grandchildren, Gavin Wahl, Blake Wahl, Madison Wahl, Hope Mehmen, Ashley Ellsbury, Maise Wahl, Christian, Nicholas and Alexandra Wahl, Elise Shoemaker, Alicia and Elizabeth Margaret Hootman.

Preceded in death by a sister, June Eickelberg; and a brother, Richard.

Services: 10 a.m. Thursday at Kimball Avenue United Methodist Church, with military rites by Lawler American Legion. Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to Waterloo Hospice or Cancer Society.
