WATERLOO — Charles Edward Shepard, 87, of Waterloo, died at home Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013, of natural causes.

He was born Jan. 17, 1926, in Waterloo, son of Percy Leigh and Dorothy Reed Burton Shepard. He married Marjorie “Margie” Rolfes on June 10, 1948. She died Sept. 2, 2008.

After graduation he worked at Smith Candy Co. and Alstadt Langlas Bakery. Mr. Shepard then began working for Iowa Parcel Service delivering freight and film to towns in northeast Iowa.

Survived by two daughters, Linda (Don) Sullivan and Deanne (special friend Jeff Hendershot) Shepard; two sons, David and Mark; seven grandchildren, Paula (Jim) Hall, Carrie (Chad) Riechmann, Megan (Danny) Weidman, Mathew Shepard, Joseph (Jennifer) Lambert, Albert Lambert and Brittany (Greg) Ruege; 10 great-grandchildren, Bethany and Ethan Hall, Caleb and Cooper Riechmann, Gage and Delany Weidman, Alexandria and Joseph Lambert and Skylar and Gwen Ruege; a sister, Ila Drewes of Waterloo; four sisters–in-law, Mary Judas of Wisconsin, Shirley Readyhough of Texas, Donna (Jim) Nichols of Des Moines and Joanne (Don) Schelling of Colorado.

Preceded in death by his parents; a brother and sister-in-law, Chester and Lavern Shepard; and four brothers-in-law, Jerry Drewes, Alvin Judas, John Readyhough, Ray (Betty) Fencl.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, with burial in Garden of Memories. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, An Overton Family Service, with a 4 p.m. rosary service.

Memorials may be directed to Unity Point Hospice (Allen Hospice).
