RAYMOND - Larry Michael Thome, 65, of Raymond, died Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2005, at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center, Waterloo, from complications of chronic lymphatic leukemia.

He was born June 16, 1940, in Waterloo, son of Joseph and Agatha Schmit Thome. He married Margie Ann Kohls on June 3, 1961, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Raymond.

Mr. Thome graduated from Don Bosco High School in 1958. He was a machinist at John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works, Westfield site, retiring April 1, 1992.

He enjoyed going to his grandsons sporting events, gardening, playing cards, talking to friends, and driving truck with his brothers at Joe Thome & Sons. He was a member of the Raymond St. Joseph Cemetery Committee, where he initiated many improvements; and was one of the co-founders of the Raymond Fire Department, as well as serving as the fire chief for many years. He will be truly missed by all.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Pam (Mark) Schares of Gilbertville; a son, Dan of Raymond; two grandsons, Eric and Ryan Schares, both of Gilbertville; his mother of Raymond; four brothers, Richard (Sharon) of Waterloo, Kenneth, Ronald (Linda) and James (Deb), all of Raymond; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his father; a brother, Daniel; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Thome; and a brother-in-law, Don Lewis.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Gilbertville, under the auspices of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Raymond, with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Raymond. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, Waterloo, where there will be a 5 p.m. rosary. Visitation also 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil. There will be no visitation before services at the church.

Memorials may be directed to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Bosco System or Cedar Valley Hospice in lieu of flowers.
