WATERLOO -- Roland F. “Ron” Miller, 89, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013, at Covenant Medical Center.
He was born Jan. 3, 1924, in Hudson, son of Henry and Clara Borger Miller. He married Betty Haaf on Oct. 18, 1947, in Waterloo; she died March 5, 1993.
Mr. Miller graduated from Hudson High School and the Navy Flight Training School. He was a U. S. Navy pilot, reaching the rank of lieutenant. He was employed with Titus Manufacturing for 20 years, including time as the company pilot. He later was employed with John Deere, retiring in 1986. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and St. Edward’s Parish and sang in the Resurrection Choir until his death. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and American Legion.
Survived by two sons, Mark (Melaine) of Waterloo and Mike (Sandra) of Omaha, Neb.; a daughter, Janet Bergman of Waterloo; five grandchildren, Kelly (Mike) Gates, Nicole (Bryan) Parkhurst, Sarah, Wesley and Brett Miller; and four great-grandchildren, Jacob, Cailey, Gracyn and Emersen Gates.
Preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Wilson; and a son-in-law, John Bergman.
Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Edward Catholic Church, with entombment in Mount Olivet Mausoleum, where full military rites will be conducted by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19, Evansdale AMVETS Post 31 and the U.S. Navy Honor Guard. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, with a 5 p.m. Knights of Columbus rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also an hour before services Saturday at the church.
