James J. Youngblut, 79, of Jesup, died at home Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013, following a lengthy illness.
He was born March 27, 1934, in Black Hawk County, son of Arthur Francis and Anna Welter Youngblut. On Sept. 1, 1958, he married Lenora G. Schares at St. Athanasius Church, Jesup.
Mr. Youngblut graduated from Jesup High School in 1953. He farmed and also worked 36 years at John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works on the assembly line, retiring from Deere in 1991. He was a member of St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Knight of Columbus Council 8227 in Jesup and the United Auto Workers Union Local 838 in Waterloo.
Survived by his wife; two sons, Michael (Donna) and Chad (Holly), both of Jesup; three daughters, Lisa (Alfred) Schmit and Tracy (Dan) Flaharty, both of Jesup, and Kimberly (Milt) Dakovich of Waterloo; 16 grandchildren, Jeremy, Brandon and Shaye Schmit; A.J. Youngblut and Amanda Youngblut, Austin Shatzer, Shari Meyer, Kelly, Chance and Brigette Dakovich, Brett, Brock, Allison and Alex Flaharty, and Avery and Aiden Youngblut; and a sister, Shirley (Art Jr.) Trebon of Beverly Hills, Fla.
Preceded in death by: his parents; four brothers, Cleo, Arthur “Tommy,” Melvin and Charles; and two sisters, Gladys Klunenberg and Madelyn Frost.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation from 3 to 8 p.m. today at White Funeral Home, Jesup, with a 4 p.m. Knights of Columbus rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also an hour before services Friday at the church.
Memorials may be directed to the church and St. Athanasius School in Jesup.
