Evelyn Maxine Phelps, 89, of Marion, formerly of Waterloo, died Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids.

She was born June 21, 1924, in Amber, Okla., daughter of Marvin C. and Stella M. Anderson Lowe. On June 26, 1949, she married Robert D. Phelps in Waterloo. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Phelps graduated from Lawton High School, Lawton, Okla., and then attended Cameron University, also in Lawton. She worked in customer service at Sears in Waterloo.

Survived by two daughters, Mary Evelyn (Steven C.) Hoffman of Storm Lake and Vicki Mae (Tim) Kirkes of Marion; three grandchildren, Matthew D. Hoffman of Chicago, Jessica J. Butler of Storm Lake and Taylor D. Kirkes of Iowa City; and five great-grandchildren, McKenzie Hoffman, Jayran Butler, Hunter Hoffman, Jayda Butler and Jayden Butler.

Preceded in death by her parents; and a stillborn brother.

Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, with inurnment later in Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Mrs. Phelps continued to live in Waterloo until 2005 when she moved to Marion to be closer to family. The foremost love in Evelyn’s life was her family and cats. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
