CEDAR FALLS -- William “Bill” Arthur Ripplinger, 83, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013, at the Western Home Communities Elizabeth Martin Health Center.

He was born July 20, 1930, in Boyd, Wis., son of Arthur Michael and Reganot Greene Ripplinger. He married Jean Durchenwald on May 24, 1957, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Waterloo.

Mr. Ripplinger served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and worked at John Deere for 29 years, retiring from the PEC in 1985. He was a member of the St. Patrick Knights of Columbus and Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49.

Survived by his wife; two sons, Mark Allen and Scott Edward, both of Cedar Falls; three daughters, Sally JoAnn Ripplinger and Mary Friedrich, both of Cedar Falls, and Cathy (Art) Chase of Omaha, Neb.; four grandchildren, Andy Friedrich of Cedar Falls, David (Julia) Chase of Chula Vista, Calif., and Nicole and Allison Chase, both of Omaha; and a brother, Robert (Marion) Ripplinger of Chippewa Falls, Wis.

Preceded in death by his parents; and a son-in-law, Terry Friedrich.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also an hour before services Wednesday at the church.

Memorials in lieu of flowers, may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice, St. Vincent De Paul, or the church.
