WATERLOO -- Eugene “Gene” T. Papenheim, 88, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013, at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center.

He was born Sept. 11, 1925, in Dubuque, son of Anna Atz, and was raised by his adoptive parents, Henry and Anna Papenheim. He married Alice Boeding in September 1945 in Lawler. She died Feb. 6, 1991.

Mr. Papenheim graduated from New Hampton High School, New Hampton. He worked as a machinist and a truck driver for Chamberlain Manufacturing Co. for 15 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member St. John’s Catholic Church, Waterloo.

Survived by a daughter, Betty (Jerry) Ford of Cedar Rapids; three sons, Gene Jr. and Gary, both of Waterloo, and Bob (Terri) of Cedar Falls; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents; a daughter-in-law, Lori Papenheim; and a sister, Marie Elenz.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Kearns Funeral Service Kimball Chapel, with inurnment at a later date in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. today and an hour before services Friday at the chapel.
