Mrs. Katherine Barrett died at her home near Waterloo recently, at the age of 116 years. She was the oldest person in the state of Iowa, and perhaps the country.

She was born on the Isle of Wight on November 1, 1786, and came to this country 26 years ago. She retained all her faculties up to a short time ago, having performed the duties of a hotel domestic when over 100 years old.

She came from a long lived family. A brother, John Derbyshire having died at the age of 97 years. Mrs. Barrett was twice married, the first time being over 90 years ago.

—Mrs. Catherine Barrett, said to be Iowa’s oldest woman, died at Laporte City last Saturday at the age of 116 years. She was born on the Isle of Wight Nov. 1, 1786. For many years she lived alone and up to last fall did her own work, unaided.
