WATERLOO - Raymond J. Hayes, 84, of Waterloo, died Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013, at Parkview Nursing and Rehab Center.

He was born Jan. 23, 1929, in Oelwein, son of Robert and Ella Miller Hayes. He married Marlene Latronica in August 1950 in Detroit, and they later divorced. He married Flora Betts in May 1969, and they later divorced.

Mr. Hayes graduated from Sacred Heart High School, Oelwein, in 1948 and had owned his own dry cleaning business in Detroit. He worked at John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works, retiring after 29 years. In earlier years he was active in the union Local 838.

Survived by a daughter, Carol (Rick) Harris of Waterloo; a son, Patrick (Tammy) of Waterloo; two sisters, Elizabeth McLeish of Loveland, Colo., and Bernice Kustic (Duane) of Palos Verdes Pen, Calif.; and a brother, James (Joan) of Brighton, Mich.

Preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Helen Thill; three brothers, John, Cletus and Robert Hayes; and a son, Gregory Charles.

Family burial service: today at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Fairbank. His body was cremated.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Bend Humane Society.

Ray enjoyed training dogs and put on dog shows with his favorite dog, Rocky.
