WATERLOO — Gladys Harriet Smith, 58, of Shirley, Ark., formerly of Waterloo, died Friday, Oct. 22, 1999, at Central Arkansas Hospital, Searcy, Ark., of natural causes.

She was born Aug. 28, 1941, in Iowa City, daughter of Harry and Grelchen Wildabore Biretz. She married Gene A. Smith on April 23, 1960.

Survived by her husband; a daughter, Loretla Havlik of Jesup; two sons, Alan of Fail-field Bay, Ark., and Rodney of Shirley; six grandchildren; her mother of Waterloo; three brothers, Merlin and Robert Biretz, both of Waterloo, and Robert Biretz of Dallas; and a sister, Gretchen Neslabey of Waterloo.

Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Shirley, with burial in Woodland Memorial Park, Edgemont, Ark. There will be a 7 p.m. rosary on Monday at the church. Olmstead Funeral Home, Hebcr Springs, Ark., is in charge of arrangements.
