Gene A. Smith, 64, of Jesup, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo.

He was born July 12, 1940, in Waterloo, son of William Arthur and Mary Ellen Lawless Smith. On April 23, 1960, he married Gladys Harriet Biretz in Waterloo. She died Oct 22, 1999.

Mr. Smith had worked 47 years as a mason.

Survivors include: a daughter, Loretta (Steve) Havlik of Jesup; two sons, Alan (Brenda) and Rodney (Alice), both of Fairfield Bay, Ark.; eight grandchildren; four brothers, William (Mikki) Jr., LeRoy (Luann) and Gale (Cheryl), all of Waterloo, and Ernest of Minneapolis; and four sisters, Phyllis (Mike) Herbsleb of Rowley, Vicky (John) Rich of Finchfprd, Billie (Richard) Hundley of Cedar Falls and Betty Powell of Illinois.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, with burial at 2 p.m. Friday in Woodland Memorial Cemetery, Edgemont, Ark. Friends may call after 3 p.m. today at White Funeral Home, Jesup, where there will be a rosary at 4 p.m. and vigil service at 7 p.m. The casket also will be open for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.
