CEDAR FALLS -- Eunice L. Purdy, 86, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, at Sartori Memorial Hospital.

She was born June 20, 1927, in Cylinder, daughter of Andrew and Clara Benson Berkland. She married Richard Purdy on June 10, 1950, in Cylinder.

She graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a teaching degree and taught elementary school a total of 35 years in Rockwell City, Waterloo, Denver and Cedar Falls. Mrs. Purdy was a member of Nazareth Evangelical Lutheran Church, Cedar Falls.

Survived by: her husband; a daughter, Nancy (Paul) Christensen of Cedar Falls; a son, Joe (Deb) of Cedar Falls; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Melvin (Violet) Berkland of Cylinder; and a brother-in-law, Robert Purdy of Cedar Falls.

Preceded in death by: a sister, Ida Cody; and seven brothers, Ernest, Bert, Clarence, Oscar, Benny, Raymond and Amos Berkland.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Nazareth Evangelical Lutheran Church, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Richardson Funeral Service.

Memorials: may be directed to American Diabetes Association or the family.
