WATERLOO - Zella M. Bucknell Ackerman, 85, of Waterloo, died at home Thursday, Nov. 10, 2005.
She was born Dec. 12, 1919, in Fredericksburg, daughter of Heman R. and Alta G. Hubbard Swanger. She married Leon J. Bucknell on May 9, 1937, in Fredericksburg. He died Sept. 25, 1962. She married Laurence R. Ackerman on Jan. 17, 1972, in Waterloo. He died April 17, 1993.
Mrs. Ackerman worked at Stoner Piano and Organ from 1970 to 1980 and then at Slagter Piano and Organ from 1980 to 1984. She is a member of the Hammond Organ Society. She played at many nursing homes throughout Northeast Iowa with Dane "Satch" Paige. She was currently working for the Waterloo Recreation Center, where she was an accompanist for the Tuesday afternoon Senior Singing Group.
Survivors include a son, Richard J. (Kathy) of Jesup; a daughter, Cheryl A. (Kenneth) Schwake of Waterloo; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by a grandson, Chad Bucknell; a great-granddaughter, Hailey Bucknell; a brother, Lynn Swanger; and a sister, Ila Waggoner.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball, and for an hour before services Monday at the church.
