Roy “Dean” Schoonover, 64, of Fairbank, died Monday, Sept. 16, 2013, at Veteran’s Administration Hospital, Iowa City, of natural causes.
He was born July 7, 1949, in Savanna, Ill., son of Robert Dean and Shirley Jean Gravatt Schoonover. He married Linda Tovar on June 22, 1968, and they later divorced. He then married Janet Mills on Dec. 24, 1998, in Waterloo.
A graduate of Waterloo East High School and a U.S. Navy veteran, Mr. Schoonover retired in 1996 from the Chicago Central Railroad.
Survived by his wife; five sons, Shad Schoonover of Evansville, Ind., John Trimble of Independence, Andy (Roxanne) Trimble of La Porte City, Richard (Kris) Trimble of Aplington and Philip (Lani) Trimble of Shell Rock; six daughters, Shannon (Steve) Miller of Princeton, Ind., Shawna (Ben) Buckley of Waterloo, Bonnie (Chris) Chazotte of Asheville, N.C., Charlotte (Jack) Teetsel of Cadillac, Mich., LaDonna (Jeremy) Langstraat of Pleasantville and Kayeleen Trimble of Fairbank; 24 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Linda (Dean) Bishop of Waterloo and Marsha (Lee) Heidt of Cedar Rapids.
Preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Shane Schoonover.
Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Woods Funeral Home, Fairbank, with military rites by Fairbank American Legion Fortsch-Duffy Post 552. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
