Services are set for 2 p.m. Friday at Hudson Funeral Chapel for a 50-year Waterloo resident who was one of the first three women employed by the Rath Packing Co. in 1903.

She was Mrs. Marion H. Kern, 77, who died following a stroke at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday at Allen Memorial Hospital.

Friends may call at Hudson Funeral Chapel after 7 p.m. Wednesday. The casket will not be open at any time.

Mrs. Kern, who had resided at 907 Lafayette St., until recently when she made her home with a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Whitson at Hudson, was born in Delaware April 29, 1889, to George and Laura Hackbarth Woellert. Her marriage to Dan Scholl in Waterloo ended in divorce. On May 8, 1920. she was married to Ellsworth Kern in was employed Waterloo. She in the Rath Packing Co. trimming department for 40 years.

Preceded in death by her parents, husbands, a son, two brothers and a sister, Mrs. Kern is survived by one son, Dan Scholl Jr., of 726 Kingsley Ave.; three daughters: Mmes. Whitson, Madeline Breedlove of Laytonville, Calif., and Thelma Johnson of Sunnyvale, Calif.; one brother, George Woellert of Carpinteria, Calif.; two sisters, Mmes. Meta Palmer of Sunnyvale and Martha Fuller of 518 3rd St., Evansdale; 20 grandchildren; and 34 great grandchildren.
