WATERLOO - Ludwig Stejskal, 92, of Waterloo, died Sunday, Aug. 30, at Covenant Medical Center of natural causes.

He was born Aug. 19, 1917, in Chicago, son of Jerry Sr. and Marie Stransky Stejskal. He married Rena R. Richards on July 20, 1946, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. She died Feb. 24, 2008.

Mr. Stejskal was a carpenter in Waterloo for 55 years and had worked for Paul Christensen Construction and Jens Olsen & Sons Construction Co. He served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific during World War II and was a member of Carpenters Union Local 1835 and American Legion.

Survived by a son, Ludwig C. "Chuck" (Linda) of Waterloo; a daughter, Ann M. Smith of Randalia; two granddaughters, Christina M. (Christopher) Grier of Kalona and Kelli N. Smith of Dubuque; three great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Helen J. Hadley of Waterloo; and two nieces, Dixie Heiser of Cedar Falls and Bonnie (Ray) Jarrett of Columbia, Mo.

Preceded in death by a son-in-law, James A. "Jim" Smith; a great-granddaughter; and four brothers, Jerry Jr., William, Frank and Charles.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Hammond Avenue Brethren Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 138 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1623. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Locke Funeral Home.

Memorials may be directed to the church or fund to provide school supplies for Lincoln Elementary students.
