Donald Ralph Gilbert, 73, of Cedar Rapids passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday June 22, 2005, after a courageous battle with cancer. A vigil service will be held Friday at 5 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home where friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. and from 8:30 to 9 a.m. Saturday. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Jude Catholic Church Saturday at 9:30 a.m. by the Rev. Donald Czapla. Interment will be held at County Corners Cemetery in Strawberry Point, Iowa, at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Jack Paisley.

Don is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Myrtie, and his children, Scott A. Gilbert and wife Amy of Cedar Rapids, Christine A. Deason and husband Steve of Harpers Ferry, Steven D. Gilbert and wife J.J. of Georgetown, Texas, and Stacey A. Fischer and husband Matt of Cedar Rapids. Eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive him.

Don is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert; and two sons, Timothy and Tommy.

Don was born on April 2, 1932, in Waterloo, Iowa, to Carroll E. "Babe" and Waiva L. Bigelow Gilbert. He graduated from Cedar Falls High School. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, and he will be greatly missed.
