A. Jay Anderson, 77, died at the Mayo Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona, on June 17, 2005, from pneumonia. He was born in Drakesville, Iowa, on March 27, 1928, to Glen and Grace Stober Anderson.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Margaret Ann Thomas Anderson; and three sons, John T. Anderson of Olean, New York, Stephen J. (Laurie) Anderson of Clifton, Virginia, Bruce A. (Katie) Anderson of Waterloo, Iowa; and grandson, William Cody Anderson of Waterloo, Iowa; a sister, Juanita Staley, and a brother, Clarence Anderson, both of Centerville, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and six sisters, Margurite Anderson, Ethel Brooks, Helen Frantz Jones, Alice Thompson, Gertrude Baker and Joanne Sprouse Evans.

Jay graduated from Centerville High School in 1945 and attended Centerville Junior College and University of New Mexico. He served in the U.S. Navy's V-5 program during WWII and at U.S. Army's William Beaumont Hospital during the Korean War.

Jay was a retail grocer for 40 years, managing stores for A&P and Hy-Vee, retiring in 1986. He was past member of Lions and Kiwanis, member of the Ajo Federated Church and past secretary of the Ajo Masonic Lodge. He wintered eight years in Fountain Hills, Arizona, before moving permanently from Waterloo, Iowa, to Ajo, Arizona, 11 years ago.

Private services and interment in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Cincinnati, Iowa, will be held at a later date.
