WATERLOO - Edward "Charm" Thompson, 76, of Bloomington, Ill., formerly of Waterloo, died Saturday, May 30, 2009, in Bloomington of natural causes.

He was born Jan. 10, 1933, in Minburn, son of John Edward and Eunie Frazier Thompson. He married Connie L. Glover on July 24, 1959, in Waukegan, Ill.

Mr. Thompson owned and operated Charm Upholstery, Waterloo, for more than 30 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in the Korean conflict. He also received his doctorate in homeopathic medicine.

Survived by his wife; four sons, James (Rhonda) of Cedar Falls, David of Prairie du Chien, Wis., and John (Deliah) and Tim (Becky), both of Waterloo; a daughter, Susan (Kevin) Frost of Bloomington; 11 grandchildren, Jamie, Terri, Katie, Alex, Jennifer, Jason, Tiffany, Carlie, Madison, Kyra and Clifford; two special grandchildren they helped raise, Al and Misty; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and a sister.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Garden View Chapel Funeral Home, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday and an hour before services Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to his wife, in lieu of flowers.

Ed and Connie enjoyed hosting family gatherings during the holidays.
