WATERLOO — Joseph “Joe” E. Entz Jr., 93, of Waterloo, died Monday, Aug. 26, 2013, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

He was born May 10, 1920, in Waterloo, son of Joseph and Leone O’Dowd Entz. He married Patricia C. Hogan on Aug. 11, 1951, in Waterloo.

Mr. Entz graduated from Orange High School in 1938 and received a bachelor’s degree in business from Upper Iowa University in 1942. He farmed in Cedar Township until 1988. He was past chair of the Black Hawk Soil and Water Commission and vice president of Black Hawk County Farm Bureau. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Waterloo Elks and Downtown Rotary Club.

Survived by his wife; two daughters, Margaret “Peggy” (Michael) Martin of Cary, Ill., and Mary Entz of Newton; a son, David (Lynda Fitzpatrick) of Madison, Wis.; five grandchildren, Nathaniel Martin, Katie (Brian) Patterson, David Martin, Alistair Entz and Rosie Fitzpatrick; and a brother, John (Dorene) Entz of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by three sisters, Julia Boysen, Jeanette Brasch and Margaret Brindley.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Friday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery, with military rites by VFW Post 1623, American Legion Post 138, and Marine Corps League of Waverly. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Locke Funeral Home with a 4 p.m. parish rosary.

A U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II, Joe received the Purple Heart Medal for wounds received in the Marianas Islands on July 23, 1944.
