WATERLOO — Rueben “Oren” Richards, 79, of Toledo, formerly of Waterloo, died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013, at Iowa River Hospice Home, Marshalltown.

He was born May 20, 1934, in Morrowville, Kan., son of Eldridge and Violet Richards. He married Zona Hanson on May 24, 1957. He later married Jean Hladky in 1999 in Toledo.

Mr. Richards served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1954 to 1956. He was employed in the foundry at John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works until retirement.

Survived by two daughters, Zoe Richards-Pane and Jill Richards-Champagne; a brother, Lonnie; a sister, Thelma Richards-Herzberg; three stepsons; eight stepgrandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents; a brother, LaVerne; and a sister, Patsy Richards-Snodgrass.

Burial was Aug. 24 at Woodlawn Cemetery, Toledo.

Oren enjoyed family fishing trips to Canada, hunting, collecting John Deere toy tractors, his train collection, playing Santa Claus during the holidays and in his later years was a buckskinner.
