Dr. Walter M. Thornton, 66, of 620 W. Third St., died Thursday, Dec. 27, 1990, at Covenant Medical Center at Kimball Avenue of a heart ailment.

He was born May 26, 1924, in Blessing, son of Walter M. and Louise Hayes Thornton. He married Dorothy Loe Eckmann Dec. 16, 1956, in Minneapolis.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War. He graduated from St. Mary's HighN School in Waterloo, the University of Iowa and the Chicago School of Podiatry. He practiced medicine in Waterloo since 1950.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Nancy Thornton of 620 W. Third St.; two sisters, Theresa Kingsbury of Neilsville, Wis., and Rose Marie Mindt of South Lake, Texas; a brother, Dr. Frank Thornton of Long Beach, Calif; and a grandson.

Preceded in death by two brothers, Tom and Leo; and a sister, Helen Braud.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with burial in Blessing Cemetery. There will be a Scripture service at 7 p.m. today at Locke Funeral Home, where friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today.

The family will receive visitors from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church or Columbus High School.
