Laura Jean Cowell, 83, of 815 Jay St., Nashua, died Thursday, February 2, 2006 following a long illness. Her body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held in Laura's memory at a later date. The Cremation Society of Eastern-Western-Central Iowa is assisting with the arrangements

Laura was born on November 6, 1922, in Waterloo, the daughter of Dale and Etta (Rausch) Wait. She married George Cowell on August 31, 1951, in Sioux City. Laura was owner of the Checkered Flag Tavern in Charles City for nearly 22 years. She enjoyed ceramics, bowling, pool and playing bingo with her friends.

Laura is survived by her husband George, a son Bob Wait of Waynesville, Mo., one sister Beverly Barusch of Ft. Myers Beach, Fla., a niece Myrna Patrick of Minneapolis, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Lenora Rorman.
