Margaret L. Thurston Carroll was born on June 2, 1917, at Forest City, Iowa, the daughter of Abe and Josie (Stout) Thurston. She graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1935, Iowa State Teachers College in 1939, and also took merchandising classes at New York University.

On April 21, 1942, she was united in marriage to Phillip Carroll at Cedar Falls. During Margie's working career she taught Home Economics at Fredericksberg and Des Moines, was a Fabric Analyzer for Burlington Mills in New York, Home Demonstration Agent for Worth and Cerro Gordo counties, Cashman's Gift Buyer from 1952 - 1967, and an English Teacher with the Charles City Public School from 1967 - 1982.

She was a member of the First Congregation Church, PEO CY Chapter, American Association of University Women, charter member of the Charles City Art Association, City Improvement Association, National 19th Amendment Board and the North Iowa Weavers and Spinners Guild. One of Margie's favorite pastimes was weaving on a large loom.

Margie leaves a host of friends who will always cherish her memory.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband who died on April 21, 1998.

In lieu of flowers Margie requested that memorials be directed to the Phil and Margaret Carroll Scholarship Fund, 500 North Grand Avenue, Charles City, Iowa; Charles City Arts Council, PO Box 3, Charles City, Iowa; or the Charles City Public Library, 106 Milwaukee Mall, Charles City, Iowa.

Service: 1:00 PM - Wednesday, March 8, 2006, First Congregational Church, 502 North Jackson Street, Charles City, Iowa.
