Arrangements are pending at Oppold Funeral Home for Elias C. Myrsiades, M, 421 Randall St., who died at 9:28 a.m. Tuesday at Schoitz Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Myrsiades was a partner with his brother in operating the Myrsiades Cafe across the street from the main entrance of the John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works.

They operated the cafe from 1928 until 1968 When it was purchased as part of the city's Westfield-Virden urban renewal project. Prior to that, he and his brother, Stelious, operated the Liberty Cafe on W. Fourth Street.

Services for Elias (Louie) Myrsiades, 85, of 421 Randall St., will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church with burial in the Garden of Memories. There will be a Trisagion service at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Oppold Funeral Home. Mr. Myrsiades died at 9:28 a.m. Tuesday at Schoitz Memorial Hospital.

He was born Jan. 1, 1890, in Vourliotis, Samos, Greece, to Constandinos and Parskevi Myrsiades. He came to Waterloo in 1920, where he married Irene George Oct. 25, 1936.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Scares of Arlington Heights, Ill.; two sons, Perry of Denver, Colo., and Tom of Portland, Ore.; four brothers, Stavros of Poland, Stelios of 425 Randall St., and John and George of Greece; and a sister, Eleftheria, of Greece.

Mr. Myrsiades and his brother, Stelios, were longtime cafe operators in Waterloo. They had the Myrsiades Cafe across the street from the main entrance of the John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works from 1928-1968.
