WATERLOO — Robert Wayne Werkmeister, 81, of Waterloo, died Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home of cancer.

He was born Sept. 30, 1931, on a farm in Lake View, son of Edward and Bertha Schoenbaum Werkmeister. He married Mary Ellen Getty on April 1, 1955, in Waverly.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954, during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Werkmeister worked at John Deere as a machine operator, retiring in 1987.

Survived by his wife; three sons, Wayne (Tammy) of Columbia, Mo., Scot (Lori) of Edmond, Okla., and Daniel (Lois) of Waterloo; a granddaughter, Loralyn Werkmeister of Stillwater, Okla.; three brothers, Duane “Tocky” (Marge) of Lake View, Dale of Denver, Colo., and Larry (Nadine) of Raymar; and a sister, Mary Ann Henry of Cedar Falls.

Preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Kenneth, Donald and Earl; and a sister, Sandy Heath.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Concordia Lutheran Church, with burial in Garden of Memories. Military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by Becker-Chapman Post 138 American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Waterloo Post 1623. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. today at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories and for an hour before services Monday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the church or Cedar Valley Hospice.
