Clarence James Rugg, 74, died at 1 a.m. Wednesday at the Woodlawn Convalescent Home of complications following a stroke.

The son of John and Hattie Rugg, he was born Sept. 7, 1878 in Grundy County. He came to Waterloo in 1902 to attend business college. For several years he was service station manager for Bartels-Shepherd Co. and later was employed by Takin Bros. He retired three years ago because of ill health.

He married Mattie E. Asquith at Waterloo on Sept. 21, 1904.

Preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and one son.

He is survived by a half-brother, Edwin A. Rugg, 112 Linden Ave.

Funeral services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Parrott & Wood Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Jacobs, pastor of First Congegational Church in charge. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. It is requested that there be no flowers.
