PIONEER FARMER TAKEN BY DEATH

JOHN B. RUGG SUCCUMBS AT AGE SIXTY-SIX

Came to Waterloo in 1865 - Well Known in Two Counties

After an illness extending over a period of two months, John B. Rugg, aged 66 years, one of Waterloo's well-known residents, died yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock at his home, 236 Leland Avenue, from an attack of acute pneumonia, coupled with complications. Mr. Rugg's illness did not assume a serious aspect until Monday, when he suffered a relapse. Since that time he sank gradually, until death intervened.

Mr. Rugg was one of the prominent real estate holders of Black Hawk and Grundy Counties. Throughout this vicinity he numbered a large circle of friends, who held him in high esteem. Since eight years of age he had been a resident of Black Hawk and Grundy Counties, pursuing agricultural work during the greater part of that time.

Born in Franklin County, Mass., Jan. 9, 1848, Mr. Rugg resided on a farm there until 1857, when he came to Iowa with his parents. They settled on a farm about two miles south of Waterloo and resided there until 1865, when they moved to Grundy county near Reinbeck. There Mr. Rugg spent the greater portion of his life, first living on the old farm with his parents and then running the farm himself. He still owned the original quarter section which his parents secured when they moved to Grundy County at the time of his death.

Eight years ago Mr. Rugg retired from active farm and business life and moved to Waterloo, where he had since made his home.

Two sons survive him, Clarence J. of Waterloo and Edwin A., at home. Three brothers, C. P. Rugg of this city, Marshall A. Rugg of Redlands, Cal., and George H. Rugg of Chicago, also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted at the home Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with Dr. Walter H. Rollins in charge. Interment will be in Elmwood. Relatives request that friends omit flowers.

In 1900 he married Bertha May (Archer) Rugg 1872-1910
