Thomas D. Porter, 55 of 1202 Western Ave., died at St. Francis Hospital at 9:30 a.m. Friday, following a heart attack. He had been a patient at the hospital since Wednesday.

He was born in Indianapolis, Ind. on Jan. 14, 1913, the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Winchester Porter. He had lived in Waterloo for the past 25 years.

Mr. Porter was a partner in the firm of Porter and Kline optical distributors.

He married Catherine Friedl on Aug. 17, 1935. He received his education in Waterloo, graduating from West High. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus and the St. Vincent De Paul Society.

Surviving are his widow, his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Porter of 307 Fremont St.; one daughter, Mrs. William Smith of Minneapolis, Minn.; four sons, Bill of Eldora, Thomas in the armed forces at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, Brother Michael of Winona, Minn., James, at home, and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father and one sister.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic church. A concelebrated mass will be offered. The celebrants will be the Rev. Msgr. Francis Friedl, a brotherin-law; and the Revs. John Thornton and William Powers There will be a parish Rosary at 8 p.m. Friday by the parish and 8:30 p.m. by the Knights of Columbus at the Oppold Funera Home.
