CEDAR FALLS — Edward Keith Zech, 72, of Cedar Falls, died at home Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013.

He was born June 13, 1941, in Wellsburg, son of Julius and Katherine Beenken Zech. He married Barbara Christie on Dec. 18, 1960, in Cedar Falls.

Mr. Zech graduated from Emmetsburg High School in 1959. He worked for and later owned Christie and Truax Construction Co. in Cedar Falls. In 1989, he started Zech Construction Co., retiring in 2005. He was chairman of the Regional Building Committee of Jehovah’s Witnesses Inc. of Iowa.

Survived by his wife; four sons, Jeff (Barbara) of Wallkill, N.Y., Scott (Nancy) of the Dominican Republic, and Todd (Julie) and Dan (Annie), both of Cedar Falls; two grandchildren, Sara and Caleb Zech; and a sister, Charlotte Zech of Des Moines.

Preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial services: 10 a.m. Saturday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1530 Pleasant Valley Drive, Waterloo. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, Cedar Falls.

Memorials in lieu of flowers, may be directed to a memorial fund in his name at Veridian Credit Union for non-profit Christian work.

In 1971, Ed was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He also volunteered his time in Christian ministry work and used his construction abilities to build places of worship for Jehovah’s Witnesses, including disaster relief work. He never retired from his Christian ministry or volunteering on Kingdom Hall projects
