PIONEER OF COUNTY DIES

ISAAC J. REED DIED SUNDAY OF HEART TROUBLE

Isaac J. Reed, 86 years, a resident of Black Hawk County for nearly a half centruy, died yesterday morning at 5:30 o'clock at the residence of his son, Isaac J. Reed, jr., 527 Dawson Street. His death was caused by heart trouble which had troubled him for some time.

Deceased was a native of New York State and was born near Deerfield in 1830. For 19 years he worked on the canal and on Feb. 11, 1861, was married to Miss Catherine McGuire. They moved from New York in 1856 and lived for nine years in Stephenson County, Ill., before coming to Iowa. About 50 years ago they moved to Black Hawk County and located near Dewar, where they lived until about 24 years ago. Mr. Reed was a successful farmer and became the owner of a fine 200-acre farm adjoining Dewar, which he sold only a few years ago. His later years were spent in retirement in Waterloo.

Surviving Mr. Reed are his widow and three sons. Five sons: Isaac, Robert, Charles, James and William are deceased. The surviving sons are F. E. Reed, Joseph Reed and Isaac J., jr., all of this city. Mr. Reed was the last survivor of his own family, his sister, Mrs. John Peek, preceding him in death by but a few weeks.

Funeral services over the remains of Mr. Reed will be conducted from. St. Joseph's Catholic Church Tuesday morning at 9:30 o'clock and interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
