Cedar Falls, IowaLeVon George Terry, 81, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, died at Parkview Nursing & Rehab Center, surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, November 3, 2013 of natural causes.
He was born on August 27, 1932 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the son of Victor L. and Ruth Landis Terry. He graduated from Mechanics School in Kansas City, Missouri and the Dale Carnegie Sales School. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War, where he was wounded and received three Purple Hearts.
LeVon married Marian L. Forsyth on April 21, 1957 in Waterloo, Iowa. He worked as a machinist at John Deere, retiring in May 1989. In addition he farmed, drove a semi truck, worked on the oil rigs, and was a distributor for Amway/Nutrilite products.
He was a Commander of The Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 32 of Cedar Falls, Iowa, for many years. LeVon was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America and was a member of the Twin Towner Barbershoppers.
He is survived by three sons, LeVon Terry, Jr. of Wylie, Texas, Rex (Diane) Terry of Carter Lake, Iowa and Ivan (Chantel) Penticoff Terry of Cedar Falls, Iowa; five daughters, Marianne (Chris) Yount of McCausland, Iowa, Deanne Hayes of Epworth, Iowa, Susanne (Daniel) Pieper of Waterloo, Iowa, Lorianne (Brad) Frisbie of Washington, Iowa and Dianne (Israel) Nichols of Idaho Falls, Idaho; one brother Roy (Carol) Terry of West Valley, Utah; five sisters, Naomi Hesterman of Phoenix, Arizona, Genevieve Lougee ,Velma Terry, Virginia Terry and Jennette Terry, all of Salt Lake City, Utah; 39 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
LeVon was preceded in death by his parents; his brother LeMar Terry and his grandson Matthew Terry.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted by the Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49 and the Iowa Army National Honor Guard. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 5th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Kearns Funeral Service Kimball Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church.
