WATERLOO — Sister Mary Margaret Friedl SSpSAP, 92, of Corpus Christi, Texas, formerly of Waterloo, died Monday, Aug. 5, 2013, of cancer.

She was born Aug. 10, 1920, in Waverly, daughter of Philip and Mary Schares Friedl.

She studied nursing and entered the U.S. Navy as a nurse during World War II. She then entered the convent joining the Sister Servants of the Holy Spirit of Perpetual Adoration in 1953. Through the years she served in leadership roles as superior in various American houses of the order, including the Blessed Sacrament Convent in Corpus Christi.

Survived by a brother, Monsignor Francis Friedl of Dubuque; and two sisters, Mary Billings of Oceanside, Calif., and Rosemary Ralston of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Philip, James and Thomas Friedl; and two sisters, Kate Porter and Shirley Kapler.

Services were Aug. 10 at Blessed Sacrament Convent chapel, with burial in Seaside Memorial Park, both of Corpus Christi.
