Funeral arrangements are pending at Kistner Funeral Home for John R. Entwhistle.
Entwhistle, 83, died of a heart ailment at 11:32 p. m. Tuesday at the Iowa Soldiers Hospital at Marshalltown. He had been at the Soldiers Home or the past five years, and in the hospital for three.
The son of Thomas and Mary Faulkner Entwhistle, he was born Feb. 22, 1873, in Gentry County, Mo. He came to Waerloo in 1877. For 54 years he was employed as a sign painter in Waterloo.
During the Spanish Amerian War he served as a cororal in Co. B, 49th Volunteer Infantry, in Cuba.
On Aug. 6, 1902, he married Frances Irene Snodgrass, who preceded him in death in 1909. In November, 1911, he married Nellie Mohrman.
Surviving are his wife, Nellie of Lakeside, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Clifford Pitts of Eugene, Ore., and Mrs. Paul Trabandt of 2109 Grand Blvd., Cedar Falls.; one stepdaughter, Mrs. William Funk of Sacramento, Calif.; one granddaughter, Frances Trabandt of 2109 Grand Blvd., Cedar Falls; one sister, Mrs. Nettie Maricle of the Miller Convalescent Home, and one half-brother, Herbert Austin of Waterloo.
He was a member of the Fred Willier Camp, Spanish War Veterans.
One son preceded him in death.

Madison of the Seventh Day Adventist Church will officiate. Entwhistle, 83, died of a heart ailment Tuesday at the Iowa Soldiers Home Hospital at MarshaUtown. Fred Willier Camp, Spanish War Veterans and the American Legion will conduct full military rites at Fairview Cemetery [Waterloo].
